Over the years there have been many standouts to don Southern Miss Golden
Eagle jerseys. There have been countless all-conference and All-American players. There
have been members of conference championship and NCAA postseason teams. There
have been those who made their mark on
Golden Eagle athletics, excelling in different
sports and eras, all giving their heart and
soul for Southern Miss.
While the standouts to grace the fields
and courts have been many, there’s been a
select few who truly carved a niche in their
respective sports. Over the past few years,
the Southern Miss Department of Athletics
created an organization to honor these
heroes – the Southern Miss Legends Club.
An idea inspired by former football great
Sammy Winder, the Legends Club recog-
nizes former university athletic standouts
who made prominent contributions in their
individual sports, while participating as
student-athletes.
