apiece in pushing the lead back to five.
Southern Miss missed an opportunity to tie or take the
lead under a minute, but Tulsa got a big block from Mayberry and came away with the rebound. Amanda Mason
converted a couple of free throws to maintain the four-point advantage. Faulkner found Vigers underneath with
just 13 seconds for a quick basket to make it, 73-71, but
the Eagles had to foul to get the ball back and Mayberry
made one-of-two free throws to seal the win.

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Freshman Jamierra Faulkner
and junior Rachel Vigers combined for 46 points and 18
rebounds in leading Southern Miss past Tulane, 86-81, in
overtime Thursday night in Conference USA action.
Faulkner just missed a triple-double with nine rebounds
to go with 11 assists and a game-high 24 points. Vigers
scored 20 points and Brittany Johnson came off the
bench to chip in 16 points. Geneshia Dunbar grabbed 14
rebounds and Tanesha Washington added 10 rebounds.
Tulane ( 15-3, 4-1) placed five players in double figures
led by Roshaunda Barnes with 22 points, followed by
Olivia Grayson with 19, Danielle Nunn had 14, Tiffany
Aidoo had 12 and Brett Benzio added a double-double
with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Barnes also dished out
10 assists.
The Green Wave led 51-42 after Aidoo hit one of her
three-pointers at the 15:01 mark in the second when
Southern Miss used a 12-3 run over a 3: 50 span to tie
the game at 54-54 on a Niesha Pierce layup. From there,
the teams traded baskets before Faulkner gave the Lady
Eagles their first lead since 9: 33 in the first half. The teams
battled evenly for the next eight minutes. With the Green
Wave leading 72-69 with 1: 32 remaining in regulation,
Dunbar got loose for a basket underneath to cut the lead
to one. Aidoo then hit one-of-two free throws for the 73-
71 lead with 10 seconds remaining. Faulkner then found
a wide open Vigers underneath for the basket, tying the
game with 2. 3 seconds to force an overtime period.
In the overtime, Pierce connected on a baseline jumper
to give USM a 75-73 lead. Tulane answered with a three-
pointer from Aidoo for the one-point advantage. Dunbar
then hit one-of-two for the 10th tie of the game. After
Nunn connected on two free throws to put Tulane ahead,
Faulkner came right back with a basket. Barnes then hit
a three from the top of the key with defense hanging all
over her to give Tulane an 81-78 lead with 1: 43 remain-
ing.
From there, the Lady Eagles outscored Tulane, 8-0, over
the final 1: 26 to get the win and snap a three-game losing
streak.
Southern Miss won the battle of the boards, 52-40, and
got 48 points in the paint.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women’s
basketball team had three players record double-doubles
and outscored East Carolina, 7-4, in the overtime period
in posting a 70-67 win over the Pirates Sunday afternoon
in Conference USA action.
Southern Miss’ Rachel Vigers led the way with a game-
high 23 points and 14 rebounds while Jamierra Faulkner
scored 16 points and dished out 11 assists and Geneshia
Dunbar added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady
Eagles as they improve to 8-11 overall and 3-3 in league
play. Niesha Pierce netted 10 points.
Kim Gay, Chereya Smith and Jean Best scored 14
points apiece for the visitors. East Carolina ( 7-11, 1-4)
took advantage of the absence of Southern Miss’ lead-
ing rebounder Tanesha Washington, and collected 48
rebounds.
The Lady Eagles trailed by three with 2:08 to go in
regulation when Piece came away with a steal and was
foul on the play. Piece knocked down both free throws
to cut the Pirates lead to 61-60. After ECU failed to score
on its possession, Vigers grabbed an offensive rebound
and was fouled. Vigers converted both to give the Lady
Eagles a one-point advantage with 48 seconds to go.
Allison Spivey got loose for a jumper in the paint, giving a
63-62 lead. After battling for the rebound, Dunbar finally
grabbed the ball and after being fouled, made one of two
free throws to tie the game with 10 seconds remaining.
ECU had a chance for the win in regulation, but Ashley
Clarke’s layup came off the rim and Dunbar grabbed the
rebound.
In the overtime period, neither team could score in
the first 1: 26 until Pierce scored on a put back. It took
another minute before the Vigers added another basket
for Southern Miss in building a 67-63 lead. Gay found
Best underneath for an easy bucket to cut the lead to
67-65. Over the next 1: 19, neither team scored until
Vigers got fouled in the act of shooting and connected
on both free throws. Clarke wasted no time in getting the
points back as she hit a driving layup with nine seconds
to go. Faulkner then hit one-of-two free throws with five
seconds remaining and Clarke’s three-pointer was off the
mark in giving Southern Miss the win.
Southern Miss shot 59 percent from the field in the first
half in building a 12-point advantage with a little over
two minutes to go before the half. USM led 38-29 at
intermission.
