31-28, with 12 seconds remaining in the half, but the
Wildcats were able to out run the Eagles down the court
for a basket to go up 33-28 at the half.
Southern Miss shot 51. 9 percent in the half.
Kentucky came out the second half with full court pressure and a trapping defense that caused problems for
the Lady Eagles. USM committed seven turnovers in the
first seven minutes that helped the Wildcats take a commanding lead. Kentucky led by as many as 24 points in
the half.
The Lady Eagles finished the game shooting a respectable 45. 8 percent from the field.

ATHENS, Ga. – No. 21/22 Georgia shot 60. 7 percent
from the field in the second half in defeating Southern
Miss, 70-53, Wednesday.
Southern Miss falls to 3-3 on the young season while
Georgia improves to 6-1.
Brittany Johnson scored a career-high 16 points and
Tanesha Washington added her third double-double with
13 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Eagles.
Jasmine James led Georgia with a game-high 18 points
with Ronika Ransford and Porsha Phillips adding 11 and
10 points, respectively.
The Lady Eagles trailed by only five points at the half,
26-21, when the Lady Bulldogs opened the second half
with a 20-10 run in extending their lead to double digits,
46-31 at the 14: 16 mark.
Washington and Johnson scored on back-to-back
baskets to cut the lead to 46-35, but Georgia scored four
unanswered points to push its lead back to 15. Johnson
then connected on consecutive baskets and Jamierra
Faulkner added a bucket to cut the lead to 52-41 with
8: 56 remaining.
The Bulldogs then put together a 15-2 run over a
four-minute span to take their largest lead of the game
at 66-43 in putting the game out of reach. However, for
the remainder of the game, Southern Miss outscored
Georgia, 10-4.
Both team struggled from the field over the first 10 minutes of the game. With 5: 47 remaining before the half,
Southern Miss led 15-14 before Georgia closed out the
half with a 12-6 run and a 26-21 halftime lead.
Southern Miss won the battle of the boards, 40-38, and
collected nine steals.

Southern Miss 48, UALR 47
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss overcame a
13-point second half deficit in defeating UALR, 48-47, in
basketball action Saturday evening.
Southern Miss snapped a two-game losing streak and
improved to 4-3 while UALR dropped to 3-4.
Tanesha Washington and Rachel Vigers led the way with
15 and 14 points, respectively. Washington also led the
team with seven rebounds.
Marian Kursh and Janette Merriex scored 10 points
apiece for the Trojans.
The Lady Eagle trailed 47-44 with 4: 49 remaining in the
game when both teams went cold from the field. Vigers
got loss as Jamierra Faulkner dished a pass underneath
for the easy bucket to cut the lead to 47-46 at the 4: 20
mark. After that the teams traded misses. UALR had an
opportunity to push the back to four, but missed two free
throws. Washington corralled the rebound and on the
Eagles’ possession, Vigers got loss again and connected
on a jumper that proved to be the winning basket with
2: 37 remaining.
Over the final two minutes, neither team was unable to
put any more points on the board as the two combined
for three missed shots, two turnovers and a missed free
throw.
UALR opened the second half with an 11-0 run in
taking a 41-28 lead. Washington connected on a three
to end the Trojan run. After Kursh hit a layup with 15: 18
remaining in the game to give UALR a 43-31 lead, the
Southern Miss defense went to work and held the Trojans
to four points for the remainder of the half.
The teams started off evenly that included four ties in
the first five minutes of the game. The Lady Eagles took
the lead on two free throws by Washington but UALR
scored seven unanswered points for the in taking a 14-8
lead. Faulkner’s jumper snapped the 7-0 run to get within
four at the 11: 15 mark.
With UALR holding a 16-10 lead, Southern Miss got
consecutive baskets from Brittany Johnson and Vigers to
cut the visitor’s lead to 16-14. For the next four minutes,
the Lady Eagles outscored the Trojans 12-4 for the 26-20
lead. UALR came right back with a 10-0 run over three
minutes. UALR led 30-28 at the half.
